My Story
I've served as the President of the Valley Stream UFSD 13 Board of Education as well as President of the Valley Stream Central High School District Board of Education over the past twenty-five years. In that capacity I have interviewed and hired assistant principals, principals, assistant superintendents and superintendents providing me with a unique perspective on the interview and hiring process. As field representative for the New York State School Boards Association, I've visited school boards both upstate and downstate where I've conducted workshops on Roles and Responsibilities. In addition, I am the Executive Director of EdCareerCoach an educational consulting company in Malverne, NY, specializing in career coaching for school teachers wishing to become school leaders. I am also an associate with the executive recruiting firm School Leadership LLC where I've recruited over three dozen school superintendents. I spent my professional career as a high school teacher, department supervisor and middle school vice principal. Currently, I am a member of the Graduate Faculty at Stony Brook University where I teach research in the School of Professional Development. I've been published in several educational research journals and work with The Center for Integrated Teacher Education in furthering their goal of developing the next generation of school leaders
In my spare time I volunteer as a docent at the Crossroads Farm in my home town of Malverne where I've created partnerships with area schools that are interested in my Farm to Table initiative, something that provides great pleasure.
Recently, I was honored by the Nassau-Suffolk School Boards Association as Distinguished School Board Member of the Year. In 2017, StonyBrook University nominated and honored me as Phi Delta Kappa International Friend of Education. In 2018 I presided over the NYSSBA Business Meeting in Lake Placid. In 2019, I was honored by the NYS Board of Regents with an appointment to the Professional Standards and Practices Board.
